Creating a User Account using Windows 98

This document explains how to create a new user account under Windows 98.  This is useful when connecting to shared resources on other machines (Win 2000/XP etc).  The username and password for your user should match that on the remote machine if you want the user to be able to access resources on that computer.

1. Open Users in the Control Panel.

2. Enable multiple users, (if not enabled) click Next.

3. Enter the new user's name and click Next

4. Enter the new user's password (if required), then click Next

5. Personalized Item Settings

Here you can choose to create different items for when this user logs onto this computer.  This is useful if multiple users share a single computer and want there own colours schemes and favourites etc.

Tip: Avoid using duplicate start menus if possible as this causes difficulties when installing new software (i.e. new software start menu groups may only be available to the user that installed them).

Select the desired items and click next.

6. Finish

Click Finish when prompted, the system will now log off ("restart") after clicking Yes.  You may now use the new account.
